I wasn't going to write a review on this book, mainly because I am not happy with the ending. I didn't feel that is was fair to judge the book just because things didn't go my way. However, after a few days of reflection I've come to the conclusion that it wasn't whom Lexie chose that made me rate this book lower than 5 stars. It was because the entire time the author leads readers down a certain path (redemption and atoning for sins) only to pull the rug out from under us.

**SPOILERS** (Sorry, but I don't think there is any way I can write what I have to say without them)

Note: I know a lot of reviewers wrote about problems they had with the stepbrother/stepdaughter relationship. I didn't have a problem with this and isn't a reason I disliked the ending. Not to be a person who "of course, has a story" but I actually have friends that were step-siblings and got married, so it isn't that taboo to me.

#1. The majority of this story (75%-80%) follows Lexie and her time with Alessandro. In that time it shows them healing one another and feelings being developed (on both sides). Alessandro helps Lexie find herself (working with children), experiences her passion with her in the heart of the art district, and helps her find a home in Rome.

#2. A big part of this story is the Catholic religion. So I thought it was a "Aww-ha" moment when Lexie prays for a sign from God to help her make a decision and Alessandro shows up at her door a minute later. Why was this in the book? To confuse readers? Because that's how I feel. The author was putting breadcrumbs in front of me the entire story, leading me down a certain path, only to have her choose Trent in the end (the person she's been avoiding and running away from the majority of this story).

#3. Lastly, I lost all respect for Lexie when she treated Alessandro, her good friend, like a piece of unwanted trash. Can she change her mind? Absolutely. But she handled the situation so poorly that she lost all redeeming qualities. This is why, days later, I am still so upset. There was never any closure with her feelings towards Alessandro. I spent the majority of the book reading about her growing feelings for him and then "BOOM!" they no longer exist. Alessandro who? There's never been anyone but Trent. Really, because I just read 7 months of time with you connecting and wanting another man. If there would've been more closure between her and Alessandro, maybe I wouldn't feel so robbed (and that email is NOT closure), but as it is I am wondering why the majority of the scenes even happened.

A Little Too Far eBook Lisa Desrochers Reviews

I have to say the cover description made the story sound a little more risqué than it actually was. I understood the fling before she went to Italy because she was hurt from her cheating backstabbing ex. What better way to get over the stinging pain in your heart by having a few orgasms given by your stepbrother. When Lexi arrived in Italy I guess I expected more lust and sexual tension between her and Alessandro. (again based on the cover description) But they actually developed a nice friendship. I thought this book would leave me feeling dirty because I wanted the character Lexie to have a hot passionate fling with the Almost Priest Alessandro but instead I found myself angry the way she disappointed him. I can overlook the dirty way I feel about Lexie sleeping with her step-bro Trent but not the way she hurt Alessandro. Alessandro laid it all on the line and it could not have been an easy thing to do. Tough choices all the way around I guess. I found it hard to read because it moved slow, it only kept my interest because I felt the need to see how it played out. We were more than 1/2way thru the book and she did not even hook up with the almost priest yet. I guess it was worth reading it just wasn't the scandal I thought it would be. Hope this helps
This book pleasantly surprised me. I thought from the first couple of chapters that it was going to be a superficial step-sibling romance, but it wasn't. The story turned into something so much more than what I expected. I think the driving force of the plot was more about self discovery with a strong underlined angsty romance. It was also a little bit of a love triangle but not really. Haha!

My favorite character was Alessandro. He was definitely the most complex character of the bunch with the interesting background. After finishing this book I was looking forward to his book in the series.

I listened to this book on audio like I do most books these days, and I thought the narrator did a good job.
