As romance readers we have the advantage of knowing it will all end well. That the hero and heroine will have their HEA because the author will find a way to give it to them. But in this book I kept thinking that the heroine was taking some awfully big chances. She might very well end up in the streets and/or as a prostitute. And that knowledge almost ruined the reading for me.
On the upside I was thrilled that this book was all about the heroine breaking free and making her own way in the world. That made the book special to me.
It was also very well written. I enjoyed how the author played with her sentences and also how she didn't over-explain everything.

One Night Is Never Enough Avon Historical Romance Anne Mallory 9780062017307 Books Reviews
This is a short review to assist those considering this book as a purchase. I loved, loved, loved Seven Secrets, the author's first book in this related series. This book followed the same type of angsty, seductive, secretive, enigmatic storyline as Seven Secrets; it puts together two seemingly disparate people from different stations in life, of course, resulting in the ubiquitous happy ending after a dark, frustrating journey. I love angsty. I love dark characters who are on the fringe. I love heroines who are seduced by the fringe and give in to the seemingly underdog (okay - they have to be rich, though) hero. This book also includes intriguing secondary characters, including the next hero in the series, Andreas, brother to Roman. Boy oh boy, I will reread One Night is Never Enough again just to gleen more insight into Andreas, who may (and hopefully) prove to be the angsty-ist, darkest, most brooding, alpha hero of all of them. A terrific romance novel.
I didn't dislike this book, but it is definitely not close to my favorite. I liked the characters, and found them to be interesting, but I felt like I was chasing crumbs through out the whole book trying to discern their backstory. And normally that would be fine if the crumbs weren't so emaciated, but I never really felt like I had the whole story (and from what I read it seemed to be very interesting stories). There was also a part in the middle of the book where I kind of became disinterested, and I think it was because they story started to get a bit slow and kept repeating the same themes, with no true revelations or forward movement. But I pressed on and it did get better, but then the ending wrapped up pretty quick, with I thought to be a lot of loose ends. And these were issues that were keeping the H/h from fully committing to each other, and then all of a sudden it was like a couple were quickly fixed and then some were just ignored. It was a happy ending, but not a very satisfied one for me. I like a bit more closure.
She writes a great historical romance. I always like her characters and the story line is always good. I can't get enough!!
the title is apt, because they went beyond sex right from the start. it was engaging. Beautiful, not so simple but, at the end, simple love between lovers, between brothers, between friends. i am glad i read this because i have enjoyed Ms Mallory's other books. this one is as thoroughly enjoyable. i love it.
Was excited to read Charlotte's story after her introduction in Seven Secrets (which I loved) and found that I loved this story even more. Roman's character is perfect - he isn't titled and he's not apologetic about it either. I wish there were more historical romances set outside the confines of the Ton. Charlotte is so strong and quick - their conversations together are funny and sexy - it's a slow build that Anne Mallory does so well. I have re-read this book a half dozen times and still thrill at the lead characters' interactions.
I truly loved this book and probably more so that any other new release this year (so far). I think it's Mallory's best book to date. It's dark and angsty and wildly romantic. Both characters are complex and interesting and destined for each other, which seems unlikely given their different stations and experiences in life. But if Charlotte is "broken", so is Roman, the unlikely hero. There are events that are fairly open-ended in the novel and emotional complexities that are opaque and require much from the reader. The ending is a HEA but leaves room for speculation as to how the two will work together to be together; nevertheless, there's no doubt about the deep love and commitment Charlotte and Roman have for each other. I started out thinking this would be a seduction novel built on lust, but it turns out that both characters use their mutual lust to reveal raw emotional need for each other. It is ultimately a poignant examination of the power of love and at the same time a rejection of the supercialities of a society that cages people. I'll definitely read again soon. I so look forward to Andreas's story this fall in Mallory's In Total Surrender.
Roman and Catherine are just delicious Mallory writes like a sorceress. I'm going back to the beginning and rereading this. Just absolutely wonderful. The language...wow. I wanted to highlight while pages to re-read. Just melt in your mouth decadent and heart breaking at times too. A friend told me to read this and I'm going back for more. Yummy
